Radio...

On my way back to home I get about 20 mins of radio time. Here are my options..
NPR - "Fresh Air" by Terry Groce - She is amazing at what she does... always asking the pertinent questions and letting the speaker do most of the talking, and to its extreme opposite is AM 1170 desi Indian Radio with Seema with "Dil Se". Within a few times of listening you realize how eager she is to talk rather than listen to what the speaker is saying..Sorry for being judgmental but girl please understand the needs of the listeners but how will you .. you do not let them talk even ...

Another radio which I highly recommend is "This American Life" you can listen to it on thislife.org
Amazing series and some very eye opening articles like the famous giant pool of Money.

Are woman inferior to man????

Back to Blogging after a long break!!

Some days back I was having a conversation with some of my cousins and one of them said
"Men are superior to woman" . Oh how agitated I was to hear that.. It is 20th centuary and people still think like this, and more so even people who are educated and supposedly the youth of today. I want to beleive that maybe they were just testing my feminism and this is not their belief..but somewhere deep down i hear a voice telling me you wish!!

So I have some statistics showing why woman are not inferior to men..

1) Among women age 16 and over, the labor force participation rate was 33.9 percent in 1950, compared with 59.8 percent in 1998.

2) Indra Nooyi of PepsiCo is among the 13 female CEOs running the country's largest 500 publicly traded companies.

3) Women represent 14.0% of the active Army, 23.2 % of the Army Reserve and 13.3 % of the Army National Guard (Sep 2006)

These are some old numbers but even a till a few years ago, woman have been a part of every major areas be it corporate or army.

So guys who say woman are inferior to man look out...

Say Bye to NotePad!!!

I have been working with Notepad for quite some years and cursed it a billion times ....thinking what all the employees in Microsoft were doing and why can't they make some improvement to this 1960 product!! and then I came across this great Editor --" Edit Pad pro " .
It has some great features I would like to take this oppurtunity to explain it to you guys: ( Its my blog guys I can do what I want! :) )

1) Syntax colouring ... for example if you are working in SPICE as I do, you have to write simulation netlist so Editpad pro helps in putting different colours to different keywords!! Now i can say Color is always better!!!

2) Regex yes no kidding it has regular expressions for search and replace and yes it is windows based!!

3) Commenting in blocks

4) Tab based views (like another one of my favourites Mozilla!).

5) Rectangular selections -- selecting from the middle of lines not always from the start and to the end just selecting the middle portions isn't it great!!

I am sure I have convinced you atleast to try it which is free but to keep it for ever u need to pay dear a mere amount of 50$.

Oh I almost forgot the site name, here it is:

Happy Editpad proing!!!

P.S: I was not paid for this!!.

Vivah.. an Arranged Marriage

Vivah.. the movie by Sooraj Barjatiya , got a chance to see it over the weekend. It talks about "arranged marraige" a concept not very alien to any person brought up in India. A practice which has been going on since a long long time and is still a very common tradition. But it makes me wonder with the coming generations becoming more and more independent and cosmopolitan is such a practice still the best way of finding a soul mate???

From my grandparents to their children and then to our generation I have seen arranged marriages happen. The guy meeting the girl with his entire family and then the marriage being fixed after a meeting or two and then they living happily ever after . What about love? Will it also happen or it is something which does not exist in real life ?? And when anyone questions they say "kya bolti hain main jaanti thi kya tere papa ko yeah tere bhaiya jaante the kya teri bhabhi ko , pyaar vyaar sab ho jata hain..shaadi ke baad" and I wonder kya sacchi ho jata hain shaadi ke baad? Is it that simple?? Can you meet a person in one day and think that he is the best friend I can ever have , he is the one I will be able to spend my entire life with , he is the "chosen one" ?? Is it just sooooo fast a process when even if u want to buy an expensive piece of jewellery or a house for that matter u think about it for such a long time before making a decision and a matter such as marriage which is far more valuable can be made in a day or two. And then they say " tum ladkiyo ne khoob padai kar li hain na isliye aise baatein karti ho hum ne duniya nahin dekhi hain kya?"

But then the rate of divorces have been much more higher than what it was before is it only because its an option known to girls now and that is why it is so? Or is the idea of arranging marriages showing its true colors now with marriages not working out as people thought it wud be and so the fights ... and so the divorces...But then not all love marriages succeed too , you see divorces in those cases too . Is an year or two enough to know a person. Can you ever know a person completely ?? There are always some unknown facts and dont people change with age??
Isnt it easier to relate to a person who has a similar background as you have or talks the same language as you speak at home ??? Isnt family also important in some way or form when beginning a new relationship???

Then what is the way to go to guarantee a successful marriage and to finding a soul mate??Can anyone guarantee a marriage for that matter ?????????

Aaj ke Neta??

Read this article today in TOI about Abu Salem running for UP Elections!!! And I was shocked !!!

But then I wonder they are allowed to run elections but we are the ones who are voting to hire them as our leaders .. So what is the problem then? hmm...the two giant words "illiteracy and corruption" crop up .
When will we be able to get rid of these issues?? Is there a way out? Is complaining and pondering all we can do about it?

These are the steps I think Indian government should take to avoid people like Abu Salem to become politicians:
1) No person with a criminal record should be allowed to vote. And definetly not a person who was earlier extradiated from the country at some point phew !!
2) Minimum education atleast till 10th class man.

Will the government ever be able to take such actions? Or are we doomed with such politicians ??
Then some small voice inside tells me there is hope and some day India will become a better country inspite of these politicians..Jai Hind!!
